Addiction Awareness Group/Co-Occurring Group

A general topic group about the dynamics of alcohol/drug use, abuse, addiction, mental health issues and education. Education and discussion techniques are used to promote the client’s level of identification with their current status in the progression of the disease of addiction and mental health issues in order to break through the phenomenon of “denial” and begin the recovery process. We also focus on how addiction has affected their life and impacted the family unit, legal ramifications, and the negative impact that addiction has caused in their life. Group also addresses the biology behind addiction, brain chemistry, neurobiology of the brain and how addiction and mental health are affected by deficits of the neurotransmitters. This matrix of discussion is essential to individuals with co-occurring disorders that are treated with medications.
