Relapse Prevention-Aftercare Group

Topics of discussion focus on relapse triggers, the phases of the relapse process that include warning signs, denial, avoidance/defensive behaviors, over reactions, behavioral loss of control, and relapse. Also discussed are the symptoms leading to relapse and relapse warning signs. They identify high-risk situations and temptations. Role plays are utilized to help each client practice their communication skills and learn to avoid relapse. Each client develops a relapse plan and is encouraged to update it every three months. Discussions also surround coping with urges and obtaining a program sponsor with the utilization of AA/NA meetings on a daily basis with a minimum requirement of four meetings per week. Relapse prevention is one of the most important components of treatment and is briefly discussed in all programmatic groups.
